Long week ... nuff said!

fat man on the R3 train market east

last day of summer feels something like this.

Dr. Sketchy is a combination of "Drinking, drawing, dames and debauchery!"

The Fleisher Art Memorial in S. Philly hosts Dr. Sketchy every third Friday.
You get to draw burlsesque ladies, derby chicks and models for prizes while a DJ spins some tunes, and to top it all off drinks are cheap!

subway game.

More subway sketches, this time I made it a point to only pick up the people with white on, or with accents of white to focus each sketch. I did the sketches really fast each taking less than 30 seconds or so. It became a game in the subway station. Not only was it fun to try to get a likeness in that small window of time but also to find the fun small white details. Some were obvious like shirts or purses, etc ... others that became more fun like a handkerchief or white buttons. This may become a game that I will play more often to warm-up or when I am in a slump. – Later.

summer! ... "the days are just packed"

Neglect! Neglect and Shenanigans! I promised myself no more of this. Lets recap.
Back in late May. Philly Comic Con was amazing! To sum it up I got to see Beatlejuice, Lou Ferigno, and The Iron Sheik and watched ridiculously absurd Light-Saber war. To top it all off I met my new Friends Bobby Chiu & Kei Acedera. I talked Bobby’s ear off about the Digital Painting class, Caricature and his work. Very awesome time! I was so excited and “Idol” struck that I fumbled through most sentences. This in is not unusual if you know me. I couldn’t stop pestering him with questions. The best part after geeking out was getting to see his personal sketchbook, signed print and personal samurai sketch. Bobby and Kei were exceptionally nice and could not have been more inviting. They are truly tremendous role models and very down to
earth.

"Hey Lou!"

June: Went to Fleisher Art memorial for a sweet figure drawing class called “ Dr. Sketchy”.
Every third Friday you bring your sketchbook, and draw cabaret models dressed in elaborate pinup costume with props. Plus there is a DJ and Drinks! Drink and Draw for cheap!

August: The month of August was great. My friend Jay Secoda, a talented balloon artist, invited me to do Caricatures & Entertain an amazing party at The Barwicki House. The Barwicki's are some fantastic folks so I wanted to thank them for giving a new guy at Caricature an encouraging reception to the scene. Here is some work from that party…

more from digital painting class!

More from the digital painting class. How it works: the first pic is the class assignment from bobby then the following is my digital painting using the techniques learned in his schoolism class.

Kangamole bunny is one of them most recent of schoolism classes i just finished. the first is what bobby gave for class and the next is my digital painting learned in that lesson.
..So I have been pretty lazy as far as posting my work lately, apparently complacent danny is still kicking! I assure you that I shall make short work of him in the upcoming months! Anywho, this is what I have been toiling over for the past few weeks in bobby Chiu’s Digital painting/Schoolism. The illustrations are provided by Mr. Bobby Chiu, the Digital Painting over those illustrations is all danny thou! I am starting to catch on to the process. His insight and instruction are superb. I feel like I have learned/progressed more in his class then in past semesters at school. Any way half ways through the course now so stay with me.

i will kill complacent dan.

Today is the first day of " The Adventures of Danny W"! ... and hopefully a the last day of lame titles and opening sentences. I have seen many of my favorite artist on blogger posting their work and commenting on their friends work. For a while I have just poked in to see new work or post that can be inspiring or a distract me from the crappy, draining, uninspired newspaper ad making 9-5. I am also challenging myself to create a new portfolio. A place that I will throw up everything from a few class assignments, subway sketches, life drawings, graffiti, doodles, observations and Portfolio progress. All I ask is for anyone to Please help me along the way comment, bash ... just tell me what you think!
